Did I forget to post in this account for so long I forgot the password? Maybe. But I found a good reason to start posting again! Come to this concert, it’s my last one before I move out of San Antonio. Daniel and Geraldine are awesome pianists and dear friends. Playing music with them and sharing that music with friends in the audience brings me so much joy.

The final exam for my class piano students has two portions, a playing portion and a written theory portion. The playing portion is a recital of a piece students choose and every semester I get bittersweet feelings when I hear students perform because I know it’s the last class of the semester and I won’t be able to see the students in class anymore. I also always feel so proud that these beginning piano students got up and played their first piano recital and did a brave thing. Today was especially a little harder because it was my last class of the semester at University of Incarnate Word and it’s an even bigger goodbye as we are moving this summer. I am grateful for the privilege it has been to teach and work with college students in various classes, lessons and accompanying.

Last performances for the semester done. It was fun to watch students go from learning the music to performing on stage with full costumes and set. I am blessed to work with college students, they are some of my favorite people.

It is always a joy to hear young talented pianists!

This competition had two rounds, online and then finalists in person. The word playful is because students can play anything they want from any piano genre. In the online round a student played a lovely Rachmaninoff prelude in c sharp minor. Then she followed that up with... Never Gonna Give You Up. I got Rickrolled judging a piano competition. There's a first for everything. I wish she would have made it to the final round so she could have Rickrolled the whole audience, but alas, that didn't happen.

A fun prelude by composer Jason Bahr, it uses all 88 keys. It was nice to be able to play five of his preludes for him before the concert and get his feedback. This was me trying the piano before the actual concert.
