Teaching Philosophy

My primary goal as a teacher is to inspire in my students a love for music and to give them a strong musical foundation. I guide students as they develop their own inner teacher and musician, and teach them skills that extend beyond the piano like deliberate practice, growth mindset, deep listening, and creativity. I place particular emphasis on healthy piano technique, ensuring that students learn to play with ease and longevity, and I pay close attention to the details that make performances convincing.

I ask students to bring their best effort and give them opportunities for performance and personal growth. I strive to be a positive mentor and role model, demonstrating the discipline, curiosity, and passion I hope to inspire.

I believe a strong teacher–student relationship is essential to success. I work to maintain a supportive, open, and nurturing environment where goals are clear, feedback is honest, and questions are always welcome, even outside of lesson time. I encourage students to engage with music in ways that connect them to others.

Masterclasses

Dr. Park has given masterclasses at various institutions including for Cary-Apex Piano Teachers Association and was invited as a Rising Faculty Star for the Texas State International Piano Festival.

Chamber Music Coaching

Dr. Park coaches chamber music ensembles for the North Carolina Chamber Music Institute.

Presentations

Dr. Park was a presenter at the MTNA Conference in Minneapolis 2025, on the topic "From Arirang to BTS: Piano Ensemble Music of Korean Composers" with Drs. Kent Lyman and Moon Choi.

Adjudication

Dr. Park has adjudicated concerto competitions for Duke University, the Wilmington Symphony, the Chapel Hill Philharmonia, and Texas State University, and for state and local music teachers associations in North Carolina, Texas, and New York.
